This is Happening
Ok, so time to get this whole blog thing fired up. I suppose I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Dave, I'm 25, and I am currently in the process of travelling around the world for the next year(ish). I love to meet new people, i'm a foodie, I'm a huge Cleveland Browns fan, I love my vices, and I like to think I'm a pretty nice guy.
Hi, Im Dave.
For the last three years I have been living in Charm City, also known as Baltimore MD. If you've never been, Baltimore is amazing, but we'll save that discussion for another day. About two years ago I was sitting on my stoop in front of my house, and was feeling rather unsatisfied with the direction I was heading. I had great friends, an interesting job, and a wonderful family, however something wasn't right. I started to feel like I was stuck in a societal rut. You know, go to college, get a degree, get a job, chip away at that job, get married, get a house, get a fence, get one and a half kids, get a dog, etc. All of this is fine and dandy, and although I've always felt extremely lucky to have as much as I have, it isn't exactly what I'm looking for at this stage in my life.
That night, on my stoop, I decided that I needed to have an adventure. Do something a little crazy, something unorthodox. Something like taking a year off from my life to travel around the world, all by myself. It was perfect. I called my dad to tell him I was doing it, and his overwhelming sentiment of awesomeness confirmed my feelings. It was on.
I worked hard to save up enough money, and now a year and a half later I am sitting in Hawaii preparing for the first international destination on my trip, Australia. I've sold or thrown away most of my possessions, with the exception of some odds and ends stuff, a few choice boxes of clothes, and what I need for the trip. I subletted out my room in Baltimore, sold my car, quit my job, said my goodbyes, and I'm ready for my adventure.
There are a few purposes for this blog. One, confirming to my mom that I am indeed still alive. Two, an easy way to keep my friends and family abreast of all of my shenanigans. Three, possibly provide some inspiration to complete strangers who are considering doing something like this. Four, umm, hmm, I'm sure i'll figure something else out.
So now that we've been properly introduced, I hope you'll take some time out of your upcoming year to read about my travels. I look forward to sharing them with you.
